Have you ever taken your dog shopping in a carrier?

Of course if the store has a sign saying 'no dogs allowed' I wouldn't, but have you ever taken your dog in a carrier (not the metal ones) into a store? My mum died last year so my 9 month old Bichon Frise is literally my other half, and I hate leaving her at home in her crate when we go shopping, so I though about taking her around with me in a carrier and letting her walk whenever she can (i.e on the pavement). I tried taking her shopping the other day but as I live in Chelsea, London, it can get pretty busy, and one person almost stepped on her since she's so small. Also, if I carried her, I constantly had people stopping to stroke her (I didn't get her to show her off), and one man tried to take her (Bichon is very expensive and sought-after where I live).
