SARU said that Erasmus will be General Manager of High Performance Teams, working with the Springboks. The 39-year-old Erasmus played 36 tests for South Africa, one as captain, and was a consultant with the Boks at last years World Cup. He left his director of rugby role at Cape Town-based Super 15 team the Stormers in January. "Rassies inputs to the Springboks last year were lauded by everyone I spoke to and his coaching pedigree speaks for itself," Meyer said. Meyer, a Super rugby-winning coach with the Bulls who was appointed Springboks coach at the start of the year, is finalizing his coaching staff ahead of the Springboks three-test home series against England in June. He resigned a management role at the Bulls to take up the national team post. . SARU also said Sunday that it was in negotiations with five members of the Pretoria-based Bulls coaching staff, who Meyer wants as part of the Springboks setup. The national union also wants to employ former South Africa flyhalf Louis Koen and South African-born former France prop Pieter de Villiers, it said. The Bulls are reluctant to let their main coaches go after losing Meyer and are reportedly asking for compensation. Meyer now has less than two months to put his coaching team in place before his first game as Springboks coach, the opening test against England on June 9. "Its no secret that the negotiations around the Springbok assistant coaches positions have taken longer than we had hoped," SARU chief executive Jurie Roux said. Meyer said the Springboks would still "hit the ground running" ahead of the opening test against Stuart Lancasters new-look England team. ' ' '
