Kareem Abdul-Jabbar opened up his wallet to take Kathy Griffin out to a dinner Tuesday night -- to thank the comic for writing his "I'm Michael Jordan" joke at the Democratic National Convention. Turns out, the two have been friends for a while (they met at the Chris Matthews show) ... and Kathy says she offered up the assist when it came to punching up KAJ's DNC speech. You know the joke ... Kareem walks out and says, "Hi I'm Michael Jordan ... I said that because I know Donald Trump couldn't tell the difference." After the thank you dinner, Kathy raved about the NBA legend -- and gave the plate-by-plate breakdown on what he had to eat. It's pretty funny.
LAPD rushed to the home of Diddy's kids in response to a death threat and gunfire call ... but it may just be a bad comeback for "swatting." Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops got a call early Thursday AM that a disturbing letter threatening to kill everybody in the house was left on the doorstep of baby mama Kim Porter's L.A. area home. Officers rushed to the scene, but no one was home ... nor was there a letter. Six minutes after cops left ... another call came in reporting multiple shots were fired, and the house was engulfed in flames. Police rushed back, but again ... nothing.
Kim Zolciak and NeNe Leakes are deep in negotiations to return to "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." Sources close to production tell us Kim and NeNe both have offers on the table from Bravo for Season 10 this Fall, and we're told the network wants them as full-fledged cast members. We're told both women are receptive, but there's a problem. Kim's got her own show on Bravo that just started filming ... and NeNe's shooting her own stuff. We're told Bravo's willing to bend if necessary and hire them as part-time cast members, although that's not ideal. We know both want a lot of money, and we don't know if the 2 sides are far apart. Kim hasn't been a regular on 'Housewives' since season 5, and NeNe bailed after season 8. Members of the existing cast are not all down with the move, but they have no choice.
'Love & Hip Hop' star Teairra Mari is learning a HARD lesson about punctuality -- you blow off a court case, the judge issues a bench warrant for your ass. Here's the deal ... Mari was supposed to be in an L.A. courtroom on Monday to face charges that she beat the crap out of an Uber driver last year and stole his cell phone charger. But when her case was called, Mari was MIA -- so the judge issued a warrant for her arrest. Long story short ... Mari's been ordered to surrender to authorities so she can stand trial asap -- and if a cop spots her gallivanting around town, she could be cuffed on the spot.
Sometimes punk kids talking trash need a lesson in respect ... and that's how Faizon Love describes the beatdown he handed a valet in Columbus Airport. We talked to Faizon about Judge Mathis' advice on how the comedian should handle his criminal case going forward, and he was actually open to it. He still believes he was in the right though because the valet allegedly spit at him. Love admits he probably could learn some lessons from his airport attack too, but backing down from a fight is definitely not one of them.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was off the mark in his scathing critique of "The Bachelor," because love blossoms the same way on TV as it does in real life ... so says a contestant. We got "Bachelor in Paradise" star Jared Haibon -- who's been on 2 seasons of "BIP" and 1 season of "The Bachelorette" -- and he says the idea that people aren't their true selves on the reality shows mirrors what happens with everyone on a date ... they put on a good but sometimes false face. Jared's got a point ... but it seems like Kareem was getting at something a lot deeper than being phony for the cameras. Kareem rails on the shows, saying it portrays "cartoonish physical and mental restrictions" on relationships. He also comes close to calling the shows racist, saying, "If you're black ... you're usually kept around as a courtesy for a few weeks before being ejected."
Faizon Love is getting off easy for his brutal beatdown of an airport valet ... as long as he's on his best behavior for a while. The comedian and actor pled no contest to misdemeanor assault, and got a suspended sentence of 180 days in the county jail -- meaning that WILL be his punishment if he gets in trouble again over the next 2 years. He was also fined $500. the "Couples Retreat" and "Elf" star absolutely manhandled the valet at Columbus International airport back in March.
